Turkey Fryer
Thanksgiving would not be Thanksgiving without having a turkey. I love turkey just as much as the other person, however sometimes the Thanksgiving turkey can get somewhat bland. In my own family, we actually like to mix things up a little. Heck occasionally we'll even miss the turkey in favor of something a bit less traditional as ribs or prime rib. However for those of you who would like the conventional Thanksgiving Turkey there are many ways to prepare a turkey (including smoking your turkey, cooking your turkey in a turkey fryer, etc.). Here are 5 different simple methods to cook turkey that are a little bit unlike the norm, however just as tasty.
Roasted Turkey - First, I simply have got to add Grandma's favorite roasted turkey. Of course, what exactly would Thanksgiving be without Grandma's roasted turkey and home made mashed potatoes? This roasted turkey is the simplest turkey recipe you'll get. Simply, you take out the giblets and wash the turkey in cold water. Pat the turkey dry and then put 3 Tbsp of butter under the skin. Prepare a soup made of water, chicken bouillon, onion powder, parsley, table salt and pepper. Pour the lean soup directly on the turkey, cover with foil and bake for 3 1/2 hours at 350. Remove the aluminum foil and cook for 45 minutes more for a golden brown skin. Serve along with homemade mashed potatoes, gravy, as well as your favorite Thanksgiving dishes!
Barbeque Turkey - We like to grill and grill throughout the year, no matter what the weather. We place many other things on the grill, why not a turkey too? Grilling a turkey gives it a unique taste and texture that you just can't get from an oven. When barbecuing a turkey, put the turkey in a baking pan over the fire; in this way you can baste the turkey regularly as you would do if you were roasting it.
Fried Turkey - People who love crisp turkey skin will LOVE deep fried turkeys. A deep fried turkey is mouth watering and using a turkey fryer to prepare turkeys is becoming a lot more popular, especially since the turkey fryer is becoming a common kitchen appliance. While a lot of turkey fryers are deep fryers where you use peanut oil in a huge frying pot, there are also oil-less infrared turkey fryers too, that minimize the mess of frying. Deep fried turkeys tend to have dark crispy skin (which my family quarrels over!), and under that tasty skin is soft, perfectly cooked meat that all your family will love.
Turducken - This particular odd sounding turkey is actually a mix of different de-boned fowl: turkey, duck, and chicken. They are all put together and layered with filling to create this newest addition to the Thanksgiving table.
Smoked Turkey - One amongst my favourite methods of making turkey is smoking it. I simply love the flavour of a smoked turkey, both at Thanksgiving dinner as well as for those wonderful leftover turkey sandwiches. Smoking a turkey takes several hours, but it can be soooo worth it! One advice while smoking a turkey - placing a pan of water on the smoker helps hold in moisture and make a moist, juicy turkey that everyone will enjoy.
